When I was first invited to a Vega meeting years ago, I said, “No, I’m not in a very good mood I’d just be a downer”, but Mike said “come to Vega, we have fun.” He was right! Nancy Ryburn was Worthy Matron at the time; we learned the fine art of “Altar Balloting”, laughed a lot and enjoyed root beer floats afterwards. Do you ever wonder why root beer floats are always my go to refreshment? Now you know.

The theme for this term is “Let Your Light Shine”. As a little girl, my mother taught me the song “This Little Light of Mine, I’m Going to Let it Shine”. Although each Masonic organization is different, they all teach us that we all have that “Light” within us. Embraced in the love of our Creator and our Masonic Family let us work together to encourage each other’s lights to shine.

So, don’t hide your light under a bushel, Let it shine!

Eastern Star is a social order composed of persons with spiritual values, but it is not a religion. Its appeal rests in the true beauty of the refreshing and character-building lessons that are so sincerely portrayed in its ritualistic work.

A deep fraternal bond exists between its members. It is the wholesome relationship of sisterly and brotherly love brought about through high principles exemplified in our lives which makes us near and dear to each other.

Some self-confronting questions: Where do I want to be at any given time? How am I going to get there? What do I have to do to get myself from where I am to where I want to be? What's the first, small step I can take to get moving? -George A. Ford
